THE ULTIMATE SELFBUILD PROJECT

At Polarwall we have seen some very impressive selfbuild projects - but one house stands out in this Pantheon, and that's the House That Jim Built ...

Selfbuilder Jim Sendall started his construction adventure by picking up a valuable piece of land at an excellent auction price from under the noses of local developers. He then designed and drew the highly impressive house from scratch with a sure and confident style.

The house he designed is built into a small quarryside so it is an earth sheltered house with grass roof - but yet at the front it still retains a sense of grandeur and style.

This isnt a small house and Polarwall director Alan Wheeler thought Jim might have bitten off more than he could chew. "When I first saw our formwork being assembled over this large footprint" said Alan, "I knew I would have employed people to do this as the scale of the build would have faced me down like an overfull plate of food"

Dressed limestone and a graceful gothic arch make a definite design statement for the Polarwall ICF structureDressed limestone cladding and stone mullioned windows on this Polarwall ICF structure

However, if such thoughts occurred to Jim he kept them to himself and he has finally finished a superb home with very little help and assistance.
